The impetus for this juried event was to provide students majoring in apparel design with an opportunity, outside the classroom setting, to engage in an activity that would challenge their design thinking skills and creative minds.
Plain white t-shirts were provided to each of the participants who had four week to transform a basic white t-shirt into a work of art - the art of fashion!
Prior to the start, a student was selected to serve as the event director. The duties of this position included selecting a venue, managing a team of fashion retailing students who assisted with the display, merchandising, pricing & selling of the items, and event ticket sales. The first year the event was held in Doster Cafe, followed by an empty store located at the Galleria of Tuscaloosa, Matt Jones Art Gallery, and an empty store in downtown Tuscaloosa.
